Good Things to Know About Workshops:
Build your homestead skills for self-sustained living. Workshops shops are designed for adult audiences, unless otherwise specified. Ages 16 and up welcome with adult supervision. Aprons are provided for cooking programs. Please wear comfortable work clothes and shoes. Fee includes materials, unless otherwise specified. Pre-paid registration is required and closes 2 days prior to the workshop date. Space is usually limited to 8 participants, so early registration is recommended. 48 hours notice is required for cancellation refund. 2008 Workshop Schedule:
Elizabeth & Jessica Crawford make a basic white bread dough.
Bread Basics, Saturday, January 5, 10am -12 noon Prepare a great, all-purpose yeast dough to take home and bake. Learn the step by step of bread making, which is simple and rewarding. You will want to make it again and again.

Wool Carding, Spinning & Felting, Saturday, February 2, 10am - 2pm
Receive a first lesson in spinning your own wool with Remick Museum’s Interpreter, Virginia Taylor. Learn to card wool and make it into yarn.
Cover the basics of wet felting and needle felting with Susan Hoople, creator of fiber crafts and wearable art. Learn about fiber preparation, and the history of felt and its uses.
This workshop is divided into two segments. Wool Carding & Spinning takes place from 10am to 12 noon; Wool Felting is from 12:30 to 2pm. Bring a lunch; there is a half-hour break between workshops. The workshop fee is $35.00. Pre-registration is required. Participants can also opt to take one segment. The fee for session one is $20; session two is $15.00.
Susan Hoople, of Freedom, NH, is the creator of Schwoollies Ect. Samples of her work can be seen at the Artisan’s Gallery at the former Carriage Inn Barn in North Conway, NH, and at local craft shows. She has been creating fiber crafts and wearable art for 20 years, knitting as a child to spinning and felting.

Sausage, Saturday, March 1, 10am - 12 noon Enjoy making your own homemade sausage just like we have been making here at Remick Museum for several years now. We will talk about the different cuts of meat that can be used, and how to process the meat from grinding to seasoning, to stuffing the casings. We'll finish the workshop with cooking and tasting our handmade sausage.

Mozzarella Cheese Making, Saturday, May 10, 10am -12 noon Learn an easy recipe to make mozzarella cheese, a fresh, delicious, semi-hard cheese that is a wonderful accompaniment to lighter, warm-weather dishes. We will make our cheese using goat’s milk and cow’s milk. Children age 14 and up welcome with a parent in attendance.

Up to the end of the 19th century, many different types of ketchup were commonplace. Learn how to prepare two of the most popular ketchups, cranberry and cucumber. It is easy to also make mustard & mayo- why not compliment the ketchup?

Wood Stove Cooking, Saturday, October 11, 10am - 12 noon The Old Becomes New Again: Learn to cook in a wood stove as they did in years past.

Turkey Processing, Saturday, November 1, 10am -12 noon
Are you raising your own turkey for Thanksgiving this year? You will receive instruction in the entire process of how to correctly "dress” a turkey - from slaughtering the bird, to plucking feathers, to cleaning and storing poultry. You will want to wear work clothes and gloves for the workshop. Young people 16 years of age and older are welcome with a participating adult.

Genealogy Classes The Remick Museum offers monthly genealogy research classes at the Captain Enoch Remick House, circa 1808, the boyhood home of Dr. Edwin Crafts Remick. Curators, Gerry Eldridge and Winnie Mitchell, can assist you in obtaining your family history through use of town vital records, genealogy books, and the internet. Gerry & Winnie research the Remick family genealogy, while they care for the CERH collection, consisting of the Remick family furnishings and household artifacts. Call Gerry or Winnie at the Captain Enoch Remick House at (603) 323- 8002 for more information on course dates, registration, individual genealogy sessions, and tours of the CERH.
