In order for historic objects to be saved for the education
and enjoyment of current and future
generations, special care must be given
to them. Each type of material has different threats and
care requirements. Paper artifacts are particularly susceptible to damage.
Exposure to light can
cause items to fade. Water or even humidity in the air
can stain or destroy items. Oils on human
hands can cause items to stain or decay.
Special boxes or folders are needed to protect them.
Photos can fade away on the paper and an image can be lost forever
if not properly care.
Textiles can be consumed by vermin such as bugs or simply
fall to pieces if not protected.
The Collection Care Fund provides funds to care for and
protect the artifacts entrusted to the
Remick Country Doctor Museum and Farm.
Typical collections care needs include archival
supplies, UV filters for windows,
conservation treatments and environmental monitoring devices.
