Farm Assistant

Position Description
The Remick Country Doctor Museum & Farm (www.remickmuseum.org), located in the historic village of Tamworth, NH, seeks a year-round, full-time (40 hr/week) Farm Assistant beginning immediately. This position reports to the Farm Manager and the successful candidate will participate in animal care for a variety of livestock, milking duties for a small dairy operation, and some grounds keeping and maintenance duties. Candidate should be comfortable handling cattle and other large animals. In addition, he or she will participate in seasonal duties including, but not limited to, firewood production, hay making and storage, and snow removal; experience with haying equipment preferable. Tractor operation necessary with experience in both automatic and manual transmission operation. The successful candidate will also assist with educational farm presentations on the days the museum is open to the public. The ideal candidate will have a flexible and adaptive personality with strong communication skills and looking to invest in a team environment but also capable of completing individual tasks. 

Minimum Qualifications
Must be 21 years of age or older and have valid driver’s license. Experience in farming, farm equipment operation, and basic maintenance duties are required. This is a position that requires you to work outside in rain, heat, cold and snow; candidate must be able to lift 50 lbs. Some weekend duties required for special events. Remick is an EOE and offers a competitive salary with health benefits and PTO.

Gardener

Position Description: The Remick Country Doctor Museum & Farm (www.remickmuseum.org), located in the historic village of Tamworth, NH, seeks a seasonal, part-time Gardener. This position reports to the Program Manager and the successful candidate develops/manages Remick’s vegetable and floral gardens, as well as other interpretive landscape areas such as the children’s garden. This individual is also responsible for creating a garden plan that will provide produce for use in Remick programs, as well as retail sales through our farm stand. By maintaining excellent standards of production and presentation, you will contribute to guests’ enjoyment of this unique museum.

Minimum Qualifications: Must be 21 years of age or older and have valid driver’s license. Must possess degree in horticulture studies or 3-5 years’ equivalent experience in a horticulture/gardening position. Knowledge base of the successful candidate includes, but is not limited to: knowledge of manure/compost and organic pesticide usage and safety; ability to identify and appropriately treat a wide range of horticulture pests and diseases; knowledge/ability to use heirloom and open pollinated species of flowers, and vegetables; and familiarity with New England agricultural history/practice and/or a willingness to learn.
