A SPECIAL DAY FOR CARROLL COUNTY 4TH GRADERS

New! School-To-Farm Day

THURSDAY, MAY 30, 2019 | 9:30AM–2PM (Estimated time)

____________

Bring science, social studies, math and other curricula to life!
New Hampshire Agriculture in the Classroom, the New Hampshire Farm Bureau: Carroll County, and Remick Country Doctor Museum & Farm invite you to bring your fourth graders (target age) to the farm for an uncommon day of learning. Through hands-on activities and entertaining, educational demonstrations, Carroll County students can learn a variety of agricultural lessons.

LEARNING AT ITS “FARM FRESHEST”
School-to-Farm Day, as created by New Hampshire Agriculture in the Classroom, enables children to learn about the agricultural heritage of New Hampshire while building an appreciation for the critical role that our food and fiber systems play in their everyday lives.

This one-day event brings together 4th-grade students throughout the county for a day of learning about the importance of agriculture. Agricultural topics can be used to give real-life meaning to many core curriculum requirements. Teachers who have participated in the past have called these days “one of the best field trips” and have discovered it “ties in directly with what we cover at school.”

A DIVERSE AGRICULTURAL EXPERIENCE
On this special day, the teaching is led by farmers and other agriculture professionals. Each offers demonstrations and mini-lessons
in their area of expertise at a unique learning station. Students rotate through each station, spending about 15 minutes at each. The process allows students to engage with the assembled experts, learn about and interact with various farm animals, and gain an agricultural experience that only a farm visit can provide.

WHAT YOUR STUDENTS WILL DISCOVER
Covered topics may include apple
production, dairy cows, chickens, soil ecology, fiber, maple syrup, plants, beekeeping, livestock and a variety of other topics. A list of topics will be provided here, in mid-April.
