Assist in preparing a 19th-century homestead meal... then, savor the flavorful results!

The feel of a bygone era fills our cozy hearth room during these signature dinners, where a small group of guests join in the preparation of a 19th-century meal cooked in our open hearth.

OVERVIEW OF THE EVENING

While the fire crackles and readies itself in the background, the evening begins with costumed Museum Interpreters guiding guests “back in time” to learn about 19th-century kitchens and food preparation, seasonal farming and foods, and historic cooking recipes and tools. 
Guests then don aprons and assist in preparing, seasoning, cooking, roasting and baking foods using traditional means and tools—all in the process of creating an authentic, seasonal farmstead meal.

When the meal is ready, guests gather together at the hearth table to enjoy the savory meal they have helped to prepare. Guests are welcome to bring wine and beer to enjoy during this portion of the evening.

Hearthside Dinners are informal, lively and fun! Participants are encouraged to try their hand at various aspects of meal preparation and to ask questions throughout the process.

COST: $50 per person*

*These evenings are designed for guests ages 16 (with adult) and above. As space is limited, preference will be given to those who have not participated in the recent past so that more may share in this unique experience. Guests are welcome to bring their own beer/wine to be enjoyed during the meal portion of the evening. Menu is subject to change.

  • Guests are encouraged to dress in layers for their comfort—by design, the hearth radiates high heat
