Pastures, Picnics, and the Past: A BYO Picnic Gathering

Picnicking is always welcome at the Remick farmstead, but we especially encourage you to picnic with us on Saturday, July 18, from 11:30 a.m.–1:30 p.m., rain or shine, to celebrate this summertime delight. Bring your own picnic to enjoy outdoors—pasture-side—at one of the many picnic tables under the tent and in the open air, or bring a blanket to use as your “table.”
If you have a vintage picnic basket and/or picnicware, you are encouraged to show it off. Feel like dressing up in “picnicking attire”? That’s encouraged, too! Do you have a portable acoustic instrument? Bring it along and jam with others who have brought theirs, or play solo. Add a bit more fun by taking a video or photos while you reveal what you packed as your picnic and share it on social media—#PicnicAt Remick. A variety of lawn games will be available for pasture-side play, as well as kids’ binoculars for birding and eye-spy fun. Bottled water and fresh-popped popcorn will be available for sale, while supplies last.
Indoors, “Picnic-scapes,” an exhibit that celebrates picnicking—features picnicking items from the Remick collection and picnicking-inspired displays from six local organizations—is on display in the Remick Hearth Room on this day and throughout July.

Looking for things to pack for a picnic?
The Tamworth Farmers’ Market takes place from 9 a.m.–12 p.m. in the parking lot of the United Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of the Eastern Slopes. It is a fairly easy walk from the museum.
Historical Tours are available by preregistration (ages 12+):
11:00 a.m. — Historic Mural Art Tour | $5, FREE for members
1:00 p.m. — Medical History Tour at the Captain Enoch Remick House | $5, FREE for members
Next door: The Tamworth History Center is holding an Old Car Show on their front lawn, 10:30 a.m.–1 p.m. They are located across from the Captain Enoch Remick House at 25 Great Hill Rd., easy walking distance from the museum.
