Parking & Accessibility

Parking

Our parking lot is located off Cleveland Hill Rd. (an extension of Main Street in Tamworth Village), just past the Museum Center, on the left. The parking lot is not maintained in winter.

Public parking areas are available in the village within easy walking distance. Closest lot: across from the Museum Center, beside Town Hall. Please watch for traffic and be cautious as you walk from and to your parking spot. Tamworth’s public lots are maintained in winter.

Accessibility

  • The Museum Center has ramps for baby carriage and wheelchair accessibility; however, Doc & Marion’s 2nd-floor apartment is only accessible by stairway.
  • The Captain Enoch House is only accessible by granite steps.
  • The grounds are a combination of grassy lawns, sloped land and loose gravel.

Helpful Things to Know...

Self-Guided Visits

  • Learn more about the grounds and things to do when joining us for a self-guided visit. During your time on-site you are welcome to register for an activity or tour (restrictions may apply). Visit the museum store to learn about the day’s schedule and register.

What to Bring

  • A water bottle. (Bottled water is available for sale in the museum store.)
  • An umbrella, a hat, sunglasses, sunscreen and other outdoor gear specific to the day’s weather are helpful to have on hand. Bug spray is rarely needed.
  • Picnic lunches are welcome and may be enjoyed at our outdoor picnic tables. All picnic waste must be removed from the site by your party.
    • Within a short walk, the Tamworth Bakery sells a limited lunch menu, a variety of breakfast and dessert treats, tea and coffee. Within a short drive, Batter Up Bakery offers a more extensive list of the same options. Check each business listing for hours.
    • During summer months, bottled water, “patent medicine” sodas, and locally made ice cream in cups and cookie sandwiches are available for purchase in the store.

What Not to Bring

  • Animals, other than service dogs, are strictly forbidden on the property.
  • Bikes, etc. — foot traffic only is allowed on the grounds.

On-site Etiquette

We want visitors of all generations to fully enjoy their time on the Remick farmstead. To help us in this important goal, please observe all signage and follow these guidelines when visiting:

OUTDOORS

  • Your safety while visiting is important to us. While on-site, please take note of posted signs and guidelines.
  • Climbing on farmstead structures and equipment (stonewalls, fences, gates, machinery, etc.) is prohibited, as is smoking, and fishing, wading, or swimming in the farm pond.
  • Do not interrupt or join a pre-paid activity or tour unless you have registered for it. Signups take place over the phone or in the museum store, depending on the particular activity or tour guidelines.
  • During a guided activity or tour, you are welcome to take lots of pictures. Please silence your cell phone and refrain from texting and having disruptive conversations.
  • The Binsack Trail is open dawn to dusk for foot traffic only (no automobiles, bikes, etc.). When using the trail before or after the grounds are open, please stay on the gravel path and enter/exit at the Cleveland Hill or Cattle Barn locations. The gravel connector path that winds through the main area of the farmstead is closed outside of business hours. No pets of any kind are allowed on the farmstead grounds. The grounds are not maintained when winter conditions are present, visitors assume all risks.

INDOORS

  • Always walk, never run, in the museum barns and buildings.
  • Indoor voice levels are best.
  • Please silence your cell phone, and refrain from texting and having disruptive conversations during a guided activity or tour.
  • Follow “OK to touch” and “Do not touch” guidance in exhibit spaces.
