SEASON OVERVIEW

Join us for a fantastic guided tour:
Enjoy a self-guided tour of the Museum Center and grounds, including a look at three architecturally significant barns that are part of the NH Barn Trail (indoor barn access available by tour only).
Visit our exhibit gardens — highlighting three historical eras and medicinal herbs. (See dropdown menu below.)
Bring a pack-in, pack-out picnic to enjoy on the grounds — picnic tables are located in the open and under the tent.
Stroll through our lighthearted “Picnic-scapes” exhibit, featuring local guest exhibitors, during National Picnic Month. On July 18, pack your own picnic and join us on the grounds for a community picnic!
Participate in special seasonal events: July: Create a Personal Perfume with Bloom Lab; August: Nature’s Harvest: The Art of Wildcrafting, Caring for Our Own: A Practical Guide to After-Death Care at Home and Play Music on the Porch Day.
Take time to just “B” — Remick is a peaceful place to enjoy time with family and friends or solo rejuvenation time.

Daily Tours: Guided and Self-guided
GUIDED TOURS

Join us for a history-based tour, where you can discover the fullness of the Remick story, one tour at a time.

Tours are available at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., Tuesday-Saturday.
All guided tours are suitable for ages 12+.

MORNING
- Historic Mural Art Tour | Tuesday, Thursday & Saturday 11 a.m.
  Tour unavailable June 30, July 4, 23 and 25.
- Doc’s Dairy & Harness Horse History Tour | Wednesday & Friday 11 a.m.
  Tour unavailable July 24.
AFTERNOON
- Medical History Tour at the Captain Enoch Remick House | Tuesday–Saturday 1 p.m.

SELF-GUIDED TOURS
- Uncover Remick history on your own | Daily 10 a.m.-3 p.m., suitable for all ages.
Exhibit Gardens
The Remick gardens are rooted in history! To help you think about gardening practices in times past, three distinct vegetable gardens are located in our garden exhibits area, each representing a garden style that was favored during a given period:

Early Republic: 1790s to 1840s
DEFINING FEATURES | Gardening for subsistence; rectangular beds; orderly design; plants in rows; veg/flowers/herbs all growing together in the same bed.

Victorian Garden: 1860s to the turn of the 20th century
DEFINING FEATURES | More decorative, not purely functional; fancy and exotic plant varieties; lush, ornate, patterned design—looks chaotic and overwhelming at first, but has an underlying order known to the gardener; accessories (e.g.: sundials, bird baths, etc.).

Victory Garden: Early 20th century (WWI, WWII)
DEFINING FEATURES | Back to subsistence and functionality over aesthetics, things that can be canned/preserved; everyone chipped in to do their part.

We also grow a Medicinal Herb Garden to help educate visitors about early country doctor history and provide examples of raised-bed and container gardening.

Our Vegetable & Herb Gardens
- As much as possible, we sow heirloom seeds.
- Heirloom seeds are seeds that are open-pollinated and developed before the 1940s, passed down from one generation to the next.
- Heirloom vegetables are not always perfect-looking, but the plants are reliable, adaptable, and give us valuable clues to how our ancestors ate.
- Heirlooms are generally more resistant to adverse growing conditions and are more likely to thrive on their own without chemical fertilization, irrigation or pesticides.
- Each year, we try new varieties of vegetables to see what might work best for our growing conditions or to support a particular educational focus.
Marion Remick Memorial Garden (1996)
A shady, quiet garden located on the street side of the Museum Center Barn, next to our front entrance. It was planted in honor of Marion Remick, “Doc” Remick’s wife, who loved gardening and was a member of the Tamworth Garden Club. The garden’s layout and fencing are based on Marion’s 1930s design.

Planting Considerations in Tamworth, NH
We are located in Hardiness Zone 5a: This zone experiences average minimum temperatures of -20°F to -15°F. Zone 5a covers a significant portion of central New Hampshire. The state is primarily in zones 5a and 5b, with only a few exceptions.

The average first frost is between September 1–10, while the average last frost occurs between June 1–10. [The average high temperature in Summer is 78°F, while the average high temperature in Winter is 29°F.

Special Exhibit
Add a bit of old-time fun to your visit! During the month of July (closed July 4 and 11) — National Picnic Month — our Hearth Room is home to a lighthearted exhibit of “Picnic-scapes.” The display includes “Doc & Marion on a Picnic,” with picnicking items from the Remick collection, and creative interpretations of a picnic scene from local exhibitors.

Combine it with a picnic of your own!
Picnics are always welcome at Remick; pack-in/pack-out etiquette must be observed.

On Saturday, July 18, join us for a Community BYO Picnic Event, from 11:30 a.m.–1:30 p.m.
July 11: Create Your Own Perfume with Bloom Lab

Part art, part science, and a whole lot of fun and self-discovery — a perfect sensory experience for anyone interested in perfumery or simply gathering with others while trying something *fragrantly* new.

July 18: Pastures, Picnics, and the Past: A BYO Picnic Gathering

Picnicking is always welcome at the Remick farmstead, but we especially encourage you to picnic with us on Saturday, July 18, from 11:30 a.m.–1:30 p.m., rain or shine, to celebrate this summertime delight. Bring your own picnic to enjoy at one of the many picnic tables under the tent and in the open air, or bring a blanket to use as your “table.”

If you have a vintage picnic basket and/or picnic-ware, you are encouraged to show it off. Feel like dressing up in “picnicking attire”? That’s encouraged, too! Do you have a portable acoustic instrument? Bring it along and jam with others who have brought theirs, or play solo. Add a bit more fun by taking a video or photos while you reveal what you packed as your picnic and share it on social media—#PicnicAt Remick. Bottled water and fresh-popped popcorn will be available for sale, while supplies last. A few lawn games will also be available.

This is a FREE family-friendly event!

August 1: Nature’s Harvest: The Art of Wildcrafting

Embrace the nature of our cycles and seasons while discovering the art of creating wild, locally harvested tea for beverage and medicinal purposes. Identify familiar, local plants traditionally used for various teas, infusions, and decoctions.

August 15: Caring for Our Own: A Practical Guide to After-Death Care at Home (AM & PM sessions)

For those interested in home funerals and green burials, learning about one aspect of at-home after-death care—preparing the body—when join us in the Remick Museum Hearth Room as we host the Tamworth Community Nurse Association’s informative presentation and practical hands-on workshop on the subject.

August 29: Play Music on the Porch Day 2026

Join the Arts Council of Tamworth for their 2nd annual participation in the worldwide Play Music on the Porch Day, to hear local musicians playing live in Tamworth Village and a bit beyond, including the front porch of the Remick Museum Center.
