Farmstead Discoveries

A painter captures the scenery and colors of the Remick farmstead in the fall.

Get to Know the Farmstead

With nearly 100 acres of land, the Remick grounds offer plenty of space to explore and vantage points from which to enjoy beautiful New Hampshire scenery.

The Binsack Trail is a low-impact, ~0.5-mile hike offering views of the farmstead, Mount Chocorua, and the Ossipee Mountain Range. Kiosks are located along the trail and provide information about various aspects of the property. Granite benches are located at two spots on the trail. Guided trail walks are scheduled periodically. Open to foot traffic only, no animals are permitted on the grounds. Learn about the trail’s history here.

Visit our gardens. As exhibits, we grow three Historical-Era Gardens and a Medical History Garden. A shaded, memorial flower garden — the Marion Remick Memorial Garden — is located in front of the English-style barn connected to the Museum Center. (The connected structures that make up the Museum Center are an example of a connected farm).

In season, during your self-guided tour, you will find a few activities scattered across the grounds that offer information about our history and more.

Picnic tables are available on the property, making for a perfect spot for your pack-in, pack-out picnic. Bottled water is for sale in the museum store.

Due to the wide variety of habitat, many migrating birds touch down at Remick or make the property their seasonal home. Sightings of killdeer, Canada geese, bluebirds, red-winged blackbirds, herons, cliff swallows, and the quintessential farm bird, barn swallows, are among those most commonly spotted. But they are just the start of the list: documented sightings can be viewed here. We suggest putting Tamworth Conservation Commission’s annual bird walk on your to-do list, which generally makes Remick a stop for migratory bird sightings.

Love to take photographs? The property is a popular and colorful site for scenic, seasonal photography — please read our Photography Policy.

Visitors return again and again to spend quality time on the property. We hope your visit will inspire you to do the same!

Summer Visits

This summer, explore the grounds and the Museum Center at your leisure during your self-guided visit. Guided tours are available Tuesday thru Saturday at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. — each tour shares a unique story about our place in Tamworth’s history through historical details, anecdotes and artifacts. Enjoy a stroll along the .6-mile Binsack Trail to gain sweeping views of the farmstead and surrounding mountains, and pack a picnic to enjoy a leisurely picnic under the tent. In July, “Picnic-scapes” — a lighthearted exhibit that celebrates picnicking during National Picnic Month — is on view in the Hearth Room. Our From Landscape to Foodscape series offers monthly gardening-related sessions. Join us for Summer at the Farmstead!
